Research Wiki approaches 60,000 pages

By the time you read this post, the FamilySearch Research Wiki will likely have over 60,000 pages/articles of research information for genealogists. One of the most active areas was the Great Illinois Genealogy Scavenger Hunt Contest sponsored by the Illinois State Genealogical Society. Many geographic areas in the Wiki have sponsoring organizations. Recently, the Wiki has had featured articles on India, Arizona, Vanuatu, FamilySearch Community Tools and Family History Activities for Youth.

Just checking the new pages on any day shows the tremendous variety of subjects being added to the Wiki. On the day I wrote this post, for example, there were pages on Family History Centers in Worcester and Chester, England, Vanuatu, Zimbabwe, Tonga, Sweden, Swaziland, South Korea and Thailand. Other pages were created for such diverse areas as Illinois, Eure, New Zealand, Loir-et-Cher and many, many more.

For some years now, I have been the Moderator for Arizona and recently began helping with Utah. Although Arizona does not have an overly long history for genealogical research, it is amazing how many resources it does have. It is one of the more progressive states in that regard, having birth records online up to 1935 and death records online up to 1960. Utah has a huge number of valuable genealogical resources and the Wiki is beginning to organize all of them in a manner that they will become more accessible.

If you ever wished that somewhere on the Internet there would be this huge database of all of the valuable genealogical records, that day has come and it is called the FamilySearch Research Wiki.
