FamilySearch Update 13 December 2013

From time to time a lot of short emails, posts and such come in from FamilySearch and so I lump them altogether in one blog post. This is one of those posts. Here is the latest:

The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) 2014 annual conference is being held in Salt Lake City from July 27-Aug 1. This conference brings together people from all over the world who are interested in Jewish genealogy.



Wiki Helps for FamilySearch Record Collections
All FamilySearch Historical Record Collections have a related wiki article that briefly describes the collection and its documents. Among other helpful features, these articles include a short record description, a review of information listed in the record, and links to related websites. You can view these articles by clicking on Learn more link found on the main search page of every collection or by visiting the FamilySearch wiki and searching for the collection name.

FamilySearch Adds More Than 3 Million Indexed Records and Images to Collections from Brazil, Liberia, Japan, Peru, Philippines, and the United States
FamilySearch has added more than 3 million indexed records and images to collections from Brazil, Liberia, Japan, Peru, Philippines, and the United States. Notable collection updates include the 1,427,612 images from the U.S., Washington, County Records, 1856–2009, collection, the 150,972 images from the new Brazil, Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Cemetery Records, 1897–2012, collection, and the 148,828 indexed records and images from the Philippines, Pangasinan, Civil Registration, 1945–1981, collection.

Come Enjoy the Holiday Season When Visiting the Family History Library
Please be aware that the Family History Library has a special holiday schedule in place. From the middle of December through the first week in January, the library will have early closing hours. They will be closed the entire day on Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Years and on Martin Luther King day. Check the schedule of library hours to see when the library will be open during the holidays.

Leading genealogist Elizabeth Shown Mills recently applauded FamilySearch Wiki guides in The New York Times as “excellent places to start” your family history research.
