Comments on the recent FamilySearch Family Tree issues with sources

Because of my post on some recent problems with sources in the FamilySearch.org Family Tree, we have had a flurry of comments. Rather than reproduce the comments here, although I may make some further comments in subsequent blog posts, I would recommend that you read all of the comments to the original post at "Hear us out: FamilySearch is Corrupting Sourced Entries; Needs to Stop IMMEDIATELY." If you aren't usually in the habit of reading the comments, you might consider making an exception is this case. Much of what was written in the comments explains and amplifies the issues raised in the original blog post, especially those written by my daughter Amy. You can tell the apple never falls far from the tree.

  1. I suspect, without any reason at all, that FamilySearch might prefer to write this all off as an overreaction to a technical glitch.

Of course no one likes bad press!

For the record, I am a fan and regular user of the program and have written and presented about various FamilySearch services including Family Tree and Family History Books and others, and have helped many learn how to use Family Tree and do accurate work and learn how to work through some of the technical difficulties.

But as wonderful as it is and as many beautiful features as have been added, it does have a variety of problems and the Legacy NFS Sources is very much a current and onerous one. (Other problems include a variety of technical features, as well as lack of communication with users and Family History Center staff.)

I'm sure we all look forward to the carefree, golden days when all the connections with NFS are finally severed, but we've all been living through the difficulties of the last couple of years, and doing our best to keep positive attitudes, and FamilySearch should not be surprised if even the most positive and optimistic users get upset from time to time.
