Unfortunately, although it is now associated with an ISO standard, the Adobe trademark still prevents it being universally adopted.<br /><br />An interesting alternative is to turn it all inside-out. Instead of hiding the metadata in some other format, wrap the other data in an XML-based "container" that has all the required metadata.<br /><br />Inserting binary data into an XML file is possible although sometimes frowned upon.
