Your statement is so interesting and surprising to me. Personally I can't imagine one without the other. I know everyone is different, but for me the cultural aspect of things is a large part of why I do genealogy. I like the mystery-solving part of the process, but if I was just looking for names and dates I honestly don't know if I would be bothered.
