Genealogy on Archive.org

Where would you go for a free complete copy of the U.S. Census with all of the images from the National Archives from 1790 to 1930? FamilySearch.org is missing some years of images. HeritageQuestOnline.com has images but only partial indexes and it is available only through libraries. You go to Archive.org. But if you haven't searched this valuable website for other genealogical resources, you are missing one of the most interesting a valuable websites on the Internet for genealogy.

I decided to give a sample of some of the collections on Archive.org because the website is more than a little complicated and difficult to use. Here is a sample of some of the offerings:

  1. I have used this site and it is hard to navigate. I have found it useful to look at census when I have made a copy but then later want to look at the pages before and after.

I didn't know about the military stuff so I need to play around more on the site.

  2. Yes, navigation is hard on Archive.org. The search feature leaves a little to be desired, too, but the collection has grown so much that it's now the second place I look for printed material (after Google Books).
