This video demonstrates how to add a source, other than one from FamilySearch.org, to the FamilySearch.org Family Tree program. Sources are added to individuals and there is a way to partially automate the process by using a program called Tree Connect from RecordSeek.com. If you have any questions or suggestions for other Quick Views on Genealogy, please leave a comment below.
It is amazing how quickly I have forgotten these steps. Thank you for the review.

I use Tree Connect for my FamilySearch sources too. It saves the copy/paste step for the notes and Tree Connect preserves the FamilySearch URL. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this!
ReplyDeleteI need to save hundreds of photos from my computer. What is the best way to do this? I want to be able to access them in years to come. Judy Wessman
I am going to write a blog post on this subject. Thanks.
DeleteEnjoyed the video. Great information! I have a question about sourcing from the cloud such as Drop Box. A man at the FHC was showing me all of the sourcing he had been doing for his Family Tree ancestors. Most of the links went to his Drop Box. Will these links be valid if he closes his DB subscription? I had a hard time explaining this to him. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteYou are right in your concern, if you stop your Dropbox subscription the source links will no longer work. This is a concern with all online subscription services and, actually, all online services.
DeleteHi James,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this awesome tutorial! I want to let you know that your blog post is listed in today's Fab Finds post at http://janasgenealogyandfamilyhistory.blogspot.com/2013/05/follow-friday-fab-finds-for-may-3-2013.html
Have a great weekend!
Love ALL of your training videos. Thank you for explaining how to use Family Tree in such an easy to understand method. I recommend your blog and the links to your videos in every class I teach, in newsletters, and on boards I follow. You bless the lives of others with your service!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your informative video. Is there a way to use TreeConnect to show the actual source record when the url to the site brings up a search form and additional steps must be taken to reach the desired record? My research is primarily in the Danish Archives on the arkivalieronline.dk website. These records are not indexed by name of person, but by record type (parish records or census), county, parish, and time period. When the correct parish register is identified and shows on screen, a manual search is required to find the desired person. Once the correct record is found, I have not been able to figure out how to reference that particular record with TreeConnect, except, perhaps, to include instructions with the source. I will appreciate any suggestions.
