Family Reunions and Family Associations

My daughter, Amy Thiriot, wrote a very informative post called "Cake, Ice Cream, Sandwiches, Potato Salad, and Punch: Family Reunions and Family Associations." Subsequently, a responding post was put online by Sam Brunson entitled, "Invite the IRS to Your Family Reunion." Amy makes a compelling case for establishing a family organization, but as you can see from the subsequent article, qualifying as a tax-exempt organization might be troublesome. If you want to start a family organization, there are few obstacles, the only real issues deal with the tax-exempt status.
