Where are all the records on FamilySearch?

FamilySearch.org Standards

There are essentially five different places on FamilySearch where records are kept and can be searched separately. There is no universal search on the FamilySearch.org website. In addition, the various search areas overlap and are sometimes very confusing. The five different search areas are:

  • The Historical Record collection
  • Images
  • the Catalog
  • Books
  • Full Text search
There is still a very small minority of the records that are indexed and searchable, although the Full-Text Search app is rapidly converting those unindexed into searchable documents.

Here are a few questions to consider:
  • When will all the documents be subject to full text search?
  • Will all the documents ever be subject to full text search?
  • Will the catalog survive?
  • Where are all the processed full text search documents? In the catalog or in some other part of the website?
  • How long will processing all the documents take and will it ever catch up with the documents being digitized and added to the collections?
Any answers?
