great post
ReplyDeleteIf I may, my book, Juan Ponce de Leon His New And Revised Genealogy should be listed amongst your list of books. It was published in August of 2010.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes the book valuable is the fact that it contains copies of original documents and resource data that confirms and verifies the genealogy of Juan Ponce de Leon, who discovered Florida, founded and populated Puerto Rico at his own cost.
A total of fifteen years was spent doing the research within the archives of Spain. I was motivated to do the work because I finally got tired of the lack of genealogical information on this family group. Another point of motivation lay within the fact that I am the documented fifteenth great grandson of Juan Ponce de Leon. I felt I had to do my ancestor some justice by filling in all the gaps within his genealogy and historical data surrounding this individual.
Juan Ponce de Leon has been accused of the random slaughter of Indigenous people. This is a gross historical error. During the middle 1500's Diego Velazquez de Cuellar invaded Florida which was Juan Ponce's territory, and slaughtered Indigenous people. Diego Velazquez forced 300 Floridian Indians into slavery after destroying their villages.
In 1520 Juan Ponce de Leon and Antonio de la Gama worked together to free the Indigenous people of Puerto Rico. A royal decree was issued as a result of their efforts in 1521.
My book also shares information on how to research within the archives of Spain. Which is a difficult task since there is no rhyme or reason within the way the archivist have set up their online program for researchers.
In any case, the book is being sold on Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, in essence, Internationally.
Thank you.
