In June of 2014, Ancestry.com announced they were removing Mundia.com from the Internet. They are encouraging those with family trees on the program to copy any data they wish to preserve. The program is supposed to be removed on 5 September 2014.
Since 2009, Ancestry.com has been maintaining an alternative family tree website called Mundia.com. The site is still operating as a "Beta" site but claims to have over 5.1 billion profiles in family trees. Since the program has been online for such a long time, it is somewhat surprising that so little is said about the program by Ancestry.com. The information in the family trees on Mundia.com is fully searchable and visible to members of the Ancestry websites. if you are already a registered member of an Ancestry Website, you can log in to the Mundia website using your existing username and password. When you do so, you are required to accept the Mundia Terms of Use.
In reading back through some of the blog posts about Mundia.com when it was first introduced, I find that some of the objections to the program centered around the Terms of Use. I found those terms to be similar to those on Ancestry.com's main website with the exception that the Terms and Conditions for Munda.com are more extensive than those for Ancestry.com.
It appears that the two databases (if there are two) are linked together. Since Mundia.com is apparently still in its Beta testing period, it is still free. The last blog post to the Mundia Blog was on 17 May 2011. It has all the appearances of a program that is in the throes of being abandoned.
It is interesting that there are these bits and pieces floating around on the Web. I couldn't find any significant mention of the program since sometime last year.
I have a family history with mundia but I am having a lot of trouble signing into it ! Is anyone else having the same problem ?

DeleteI too have the same problem - I think, after reading the terms and conditions, that the Beta period has expired (1 month) and unless we sign up with Ancestry or Mundia for a paid sub we will not be able to access the information - not good
ReplyDeleteNo that can't be correct, I have been on the Mundia site for ages & never paid a subscription. I can't get google to access the site at all, so maybe they have finished as it was only a setup site for them while they got the program right.
DeleteStarted a family tree in Mundia a couple of weeks ago and found details of some family members were appearing before I entered them. Now for the last week or so I can't sign in so can't continue. Reading the comments posted here raises many questions about the real motives of Ancestry.com in starting Mundia. Perhaps the solution is to abandon both?

Yes, I also have a newly set up tree on Mundia and found that no matter what I try, I can't access the site. I have used their " contact us " heading several times and had no reply. Looks like, as previous posters have intimated, the site looks on its last legs.

I too cannot acces Mundia thru Google but can get on the sight thru Foxfire and have been working thru there.
ReplyDeleteI sign in and the sign in process repeats, I ask for a password reset via e-mail, get it, do it, and the process repeats. I try to get in by facebook, ditto. it's all crap.

ReplyDeleteI wrote to mundia regarding the problems connecting and all they did was redirect me to use the ancestry site, apparently they want a paid subscription for all the users to access the shared public records and trees that people have made
