Google's free downloadable program, Google Earth just got a major upgrade. Version 6 has a change that could be important to genealogists, an update to the historical imagery. As explained in the announcement, "When browsing a location, Google Earth will continue to show the imagery date in the lower-left corner, which is a great feature. Now, if historical imagery is available in your current view you'll see a small icon appear down there that shows the date of the oldest available imagery." Version 6 also has a number of major updates, including tighter integration with StreetView and 3D Trees. Here is a video on the new StreetView features:
