Beta Test of Uploading PDF Files to FamilySearch Family Tree

FamilySearch.org's Photos program is about to take a new turn and allow PDF files to be uploaded. This new feature is in Beta testing. Click this link to get to the beta site. If you want some specific instructions about the process, see the blog post by Matt Wright entitled "Capturing and Uploading Document in PDF Format to Family Tree."

Very importantly, if you have already uploaded a photo of a document or other item, the designation can be changed to that of a document. At this point there is nothing in the announcement about using either photos or documents as additions to sources. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

  1. The link to Matt Wright's post doesn't seem to be working.

    1. It looks like they took it down. Probably because they got more information than they wanted.

  2. Thanks a bunch. I've uploaded at least 15 pdf since reading this and given FamilySearch some feedback. I was just thinking in the previous 48 hours how I am anxious to have this. I'm so glad you shared since the FS post is sort of hidden like many are.

    1. It isn't working for me now, but they may have taken down the Beta site?

  3. I was surprised that they revealed the secret url code which allows toggling several experaments on and off. When I toggle the pdf one (or anything under photos), it doesn't stick. I simply bookmarked familysearch.org/photos/documents and click that link in my toolbar shortcuts when I want to use it. It has been working great, minus a few beta glitches. Now I have over 40 PDFs uploaded. 15mb max btw.
